Day 9

My dad had been calling the letting agency and had taken legal advice and was told that we would not be paying rent until the flat was water tight, smoke detectors where fitted and all sash windows should be able to open and close and ropes all to be repaired... My dad had done this the day before and told "L" and when he told her we would be withholding the rent she said he can’t do that! He responded legally I can and she shut up....


He was then assured that the leak would be looked at, the smoke detectors fitted and all windows repaired today.



So I waited all morning for someone to come and called to get a time and was told they would call me and they never did. Then my dad came over an during that time the rain came and we saw the leak for the first time! my dad he called the "Joiner" I use this loosley. Finally showed up at the door carrying a hammer and a chisel and that was all!!! he then asked what windows and cracked them open with the hammer an chisel and then when I pointed out the window that was going to fall out he said oh yes it’s been that way for years and I wasn’t to touch it... then I asked about the leak and he said "oh yes I know where it is it happened before" and only took a Picture! Then I asked about the smoke alarms and was told yes we need an electrician and he then asked me for another list of problems and left... he spent around 5 minutes in the flat... and at the end everything we were promised was a lie as the windows where still dangerous, the leak was still leaky and still no smoke detectors.



By the end of that day I was in some state as the worry was getting worse. We were promised another call back from "L" and it never happened so my dad called her and every time he called she was busy.... eventually she spoke to him and said the environmental health would be out the following day.



That night we were just trying to relax but ended arguing as the stress was beginning to grow.
